James Lambert is the Secretary of Hemispheric Affairs of the Organization of American States since October 1
2015. This new Secretariat serves as a coordination approach in the organizational response to the great hemispheric challenges.
Matters such as the Summits of the Americas and programs that support good governance in the region fall to its Secretariat.
It also carries out OAS public diplomacy initiatives, including strengthening cultural programs through the
Management of the Art Museum of the Americas and the Colón Library. Before joining the OAS in 2015, he served for 33 years as a Canadian Ambassador and diplomat.
As one of the recognized experts in Latin America and the Caribbean of the Canadian government, James Lambert was a principal player in the strategic approach of the hemisphere. He held the position of Director General of Latin America and the Caribbean; General Director of Public Diplomacy. Between 2010 and 2015 Emb. Lambert was appointed Canadian Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Permanent Representative
before the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. From there he was also accredited before the judicial institutions in The Hague and worked with them to advance the global peace and justice agenda.
